How does this calculator work?
We start with the salary range we have published for each language (verified from Naukri.com and LinkedIn India listings). Then we apply two adjustments: a city multiplier (Bengaluru and Hyderabad pay highest, tier-2 cities pay 35% less) and an experience multiplier (a fresher earns the lower bound, a 10-year veteran earns near the upper bound).
The result is a realistic estimate, not a guarantee. Real offers vary by:
- Company type (product company > service company > startup early stage)
- Your interview performance and negotiation
- Specific in-demand stack (e.g. PyTorch + ML pays more than just "Python")
- Whether the role is fully remote, hybrid, or onsite
- Stock or RSU components (especially in MNCs)
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is this salary calculator?
Estimates are based on actual job listings on Naukri.com and LinkedIn India for the past 6 months, plus internal hiring data from OneCity Technologies (650+ client projects). Real offers vary by company size, your interview performance, and location specifics. Use this as a directional guide.
Why are tier-2 city salaries lower?
Tier-2 cities (Coimbatore, Indore, Lucknow, Kochi etc.) typically pay 25–35% less than Bengaluru for the same role. The cost of living is also lower. Remote-first companies have started narrowing this gap, especially for senior roles.
Why is Bengaluru the highest paying city?
Bengaluru hosts the largest concentration of product companies, startups, and global capability centers (GCCs) in India. Competition for talent drives up offers, especially for AI, cloud, and senior backend engineers.
Does experience really matter that much?
Yes. The biggest salary jump in India happens between 3 and 7 years of experience — often 2-3x. Beyond 10 years, gains slow unless you move to leadership or specialized roles.
What about freelance or remote rates?
For Indian developers serving US/EU clients remotely, hourly rates of $25-80 are common (₹20-65L+ annually). This calculator is for India-based full-time roles only.
